'Escaping Silos' will showcase pragmatic examples of actions that have overcome change resistance and the elements that contributed to the breakthroughs; engaging business leaders, scientists, politicians and educators that are influencing sustainability within engineering. Local and global integrated solutions across professions, industry sectors and communities will be highlighted, addressing the impact of economic policy and social directions.

In addition, the deployment of the conference itself is setting an unprecedented events sustainability benchmark via its sustainability initiatives, including the quantification and minimisation of resource usage (e.g. water, energy, waste) and greenhouse gas emissions, contribution to a sustainable legacy, development of a sustainable transport portal for conference delegates, implementation of sustainable procurement standards and collaborative partnerships with stakeholders involved, as well as promotion of a range of sustainable sponsorship initiatives.

We have secured a number of renowned international and national speakers, including Annie Leonard (the story of stuff), Paul Gilding (author of The Great Disruption), Krista Milne (Manager of Sustainability, City of Melbourne), Amanda Mckenzie from the Australian Youth Climate Coalition and Carol Boyle, Director of the International Centre for Sustainability Engineering and Research, University of Auckland.
