Engineers, Architects, Builders and Developers are increasingly being asked to deliver “sustainable” buildings. While the definition of a sustainable building is a constantly evolving debate, the term has generally come to be used to describe a building that requires less natural resources to construct and operate than a traditional building, while also providing a healthy environment for its occupants. Over the years, a whole array of tools and technologies have become available to help qualify, quantify and generally improve the sustainability of our built environment. And while some of these technologies have become elaborate, complex ways of reducing the impact of our buildings, the simple but significant question remains… What materials should we be using to build our buildings in the first place? How we answer this question can play a key role in how we deliver sustainable buildings. In this professional development session, we’ll take a look at some of emerging trends in sustainable building materials and how these materials can be used to improve the sustainability of our built environment. We will also be looking at the resources available to make informed decisions about selecting our building materials.

Speakers for the evening will include the following:

  • David Baggs FRAIA, Green Star AP, LEED AP, ABSA, ASHRAE, is CEO and Technical Director of Global GreenTag Pty Ltd and Program Director of Global GreenTagCertTM a life-cycle assessment based ecolabel rating program. He is an award winning chartered architect, sustainability, energy-efficiency and eco-materials consultant with over 30 years experience in sustainable development design and consulting on some of Australia’s most iconic green projects. He is both a Green Star and LEED Accredited Professional.
