The SENG Executive Committee is made up of representatives from each chapter committee. The Executive Committee meets in person once a year and regularly by videoconference/ teleconference in order to manage and administer the society. Benjamin Hanley - Chair
Benjamin Hanley is the SENG Executive Committee chair. A finance MBA graduate, chartered engineer and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Benjamin brings with him experience and insight from numerous tier one construction, infrastructure and remediation projects. Benjamin's career and passion is focused on unlocking sustainable long-term value for communities, businesses and environments. In his capacity as SENG Executive Committee chair Benjamin does not represent his employer.
Steve Posselt CPEng, FIEAust, RPEQ - Immediate Past Chair
Steve is a civil engineer who specialises in water and wastewater. He was the founding director of three successful equipment manufacturing companies which varied in size from 12 to 100 people. He is a successful author and adventurer, having paddled and dragged his wheeled kayak 12,000km both in Australia and around the world and is the only person to have paddled up the Lower Mississippi River in a flood. For two decades he has devoted significant time and money to promote the need for urgent action on climate change. He can be contacted via email at steve@kayak4earth.com.
James Spears - Treasurer and ACT Representative
James is a sustainability consultant and chartered building services engineer who primarily works in the field of energy efficiency for commercial buildings. He specialises in the optimisation and tuning of HVAC plant, as well as the development of feasibility studies and business cases for energy efficient retrofit projects for existing buildings.
Rebecca McKenzie - NT, SA and Overseas Representative
Rebecca is a mechanical engineer working in the electricity generation sector in the Northern Territory. Rebecca’s career has included the development and delivery of major energy projects, and is currently focussed on the review of and implementation of new energy technologies into the electricity generation system in the Northern Territory, to support the achievement of increased renewable energy.

Michelle Bruce - Deputy Chair and ACT Representative
Michelle is a Chartered Environmental Engineer with over 20 year’s experience in environmental regulation and compliance, environmental policy preparation and implementation, and environmental and conservation program administration. Michelle’s roles have ranged from field based regulatory operations in regional and urban areas to executive leadership roles at both State and National levels.
Michael Hassett CP Eng (Ret) MIE Aust - Vic Representative
Michael is a former electrical/ telecommunications engineer, having worked most of his career in the Bureau of Meteorology. He held senior roles in telecommunications management and served on technical committees of the World Meteorological Organisation. He has been involved with SENG since 2012 in office bearer roles in Vic chapter and previously served on the Executive Committee from 2012 to 2016.
Barrett Moulds - Western Australia Representative
Barrett Moulds is the WA representative on the SENG Executive Committee. Barrett is a registered environmental and chemical engineer with extensive experience in the water industry. He is passionate about delivering infrastructure that is compatible with the goals of ecological and environmental protection and restoration.
Lucy Baker FIEAust CPEng ISAP IAP2 – Environmental College Representative
Lucy holds both a Master of Environmental Engineering Management and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and brings over 30 years’ professional experience on iconic and major infrastructure projects. In addition to her being awarded a fellowship from Engineer’s Australia, she holds several professional memberships including Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia and International Association of Public participation along with an Engineering Chartership in the areas of Environmental Engineering, Project Management, Leadership and Management. Passionate about promoting sustainability and environmental policy best practice, Lucy is delighted to accept this appointment with Engineers Australia, as part of her ongoing work with government, industry and the community on environmental and sustainability issues.
EA Learned Society Advisor - Jessica Casha
