Come along and hear the next term of National policy leaders talk about their sustainability policies for the up coming elections.The candidates from the 3 major parties (Labor, Liberal and Greens) will each present their policy platforms for the next three years with an emphasis on those policies with an engineering focus.

This presentation will focus on the development of Light Rail Transport systems (LRT) in city environments like Canberra. The talk will particularly examine experiences from developing LRT projects in the USA, from planning, design, construction and on to operation and maintenance. The talk will cover some of the key issues and risks of LRT projects and will consider examples from numerous projects from around the USA, particularly concentrating on the development of the Portland LRT system.

The documentary will be complemented by a live Q&A with documentary producer Laura Noonan, and followed by food and drinks in the foyer.

Repower Port Augusta - The Solar Thermal proposal to replace coal

Repower Port Augusta is a proposal to replace aging coal plants Playford B and Northern in South Australia with solar thermal and wind power.
 
Six solar thermal plants and ninety five wind turbines will replace the 4650 GWhrs that the coal plants produce on average (based on 2008-2009 generation levels), which equates to 31% of South Australia's electricity supply requirements.
 

Toxic materials as a recycled product in Qld Road Pavements

The seminar provided a brief background on the uses of toxic material in pavements around the world.

There are numerous toxic materials that can be used as recycled products in road pavements.  These include used tyres, waste from power plants and construction waste.

The topic covered looked at the overall picture on how this industry has come about in the US (California), and how Recycled Roads pavements can implement similar systems in Queensland.
